Ramblings of a diverse female

MAG – SVER Faction April 22, 2010

On Monday I deleted my Raven soldier then joined the S.V.E.R faction. Starting at level 1 was painful. No skill points, no useful gadgets and forced to use the default weapons. But surprisingly, the default assault rifle is pretty lethal. I got more kills in one game with that than I ever did using the Raven default AR.

One thing  that I noticed  after a few games, teamwork is better. Yesterday I played an Acquisition mission. It was the Corvus Research map attacking Raven. The squad leader announced right away what the plan was. He FRAGO’d everything as we went along. We made a quick sweep, taking every bunker, destroyed the Mortar Battery, AAA and Sensor Array and acquired both vehicles. It was amazing. Everyone worked together. People resuscitated you when you got hit instead of running past you like you weren’t there.  I have not experienced that at all after playing for nearly 3 months. Not even with the BPC. Yes, we all rez each other, but we’ve never swept through the map like that. At least not on the nights I played.

I’ve made it to level 17 in just 3 days. Right now my load out includes the Medical Kit with full resuscitation. I have the AG-94 assault rifle as my primary. I’m just shy of 400 kills to get my Assault Master Specialist Medal. I already got the Machine Gun Master Specialist Medal. You receive these medals by killing 1000 enemies.  And with my measly kills, it takes awhile.

There are 58 medals and 40 ribbons to achieve. I doubt I’ll get them all, but I’ll certainly try. I would imagine you’d have to play the game for a very long time to get every one of them. There are 38 trophies to be gotten. As much as I’d love to get the platinum, I doubt it will happen. But you never know.

MAG – Level 60 April 17, 2010

Yesterday I reached level 60 in the Raven faction. I can now switch to the  S.V.E.R faction which is the one I belong in, according to the short quiz I took on the Shadow War recruitment website. So we’ll see if my stats improve once I start playing.

I dread creating a new character. Starting over isn’t appealing. You lose all your skill points and have to use the default weapons until you get enough skill points to acquire better ones. But before I get a better weapon, I’ll get the medical kit and the ability to resuscitate. That’s the way to get lots of XP, resuscitating the wounded.

So on Monday, I’ll delete my Raven soldier and create my new S.V.E.R soldier. No other members of the BPC have switched to S.V.E.R. from Valor yet.  Some are waiting for others to reach level 60 and then switch. I may get a head start on them, but a handful will surpass me because they are better players than I. Doesn’t matter though, that’s one of the things that makes the BPC so beautiful, you don’t have to be an awesome player, we just enjoy playing together.

GTA IV Fun April 16, 2010

Last night me and some of the boys from the BPC got together online and played Grand Theft Auto IV. It didn’t start out well. A few weeks ago, Rockstar released a patch that was supposed to fix the friend list issue where you can only see 50 people on your list. What we at the BPC did was create a new user account with _gta at the end so only those people would be on our friend list. We had some new players join us, so they had to set up their account before we could start playing. So an hour later, we actually started playing.

You would think that after all this time since the game was released that they would really fix that issue. I haven’t checked their website yet, but I’m sure they have been flooded with complaints that the issue is not resolved.

Despite that, we played one game of Car Jack City, then went into Free Mode, where you can wonder around Liberty City doing whatever you want. It takes a lot to kill each other in this mode, so we mostly drove around doing crazy stunts. Took helicopters to the top of the highest building and base jumped. And while the boys were jumping a helicopter at the airport, I practiced rolling cars so that I can go for the Rolled Over trophy. It’s one of the last ones I need in single player and it’s been a pain to get.

At the end of the night, we all flew in a helicopter to the statue of Happiness and jumped out to see the beating heart inside. A couple of the guys haven’t seen it yet. There is a trick to seeing it though, and it’s not the easiest thing in the world to do. You have to align the helicopter just right and then jump from it and land in a particular spot. Av, one of the youngest in our group, made it on the first try. I died 3 times jumping out, missing the mark and so did others. They were still trying when I logged out. My headset died and it’s no fun playing if you can’t talk. I’ll ask them today if they saw it.

Free Mode was fun, but next time I’m ready for objective based missions. I like those best.

Episodes from Liberty City April 14, 2010

I was very happy that Episodes from Liberty City was released yesterday. There are two games on the disc; The Lost and Damned & The Ballad of Gay Tony. They were released for the XBOX last year as separate games. Yesterday they were bundled together for release on the Playstation 3 (PS3).

SPOILER ALERT!!

When I got home from Best Buy, I put the disc in the PS3 and waited while the game installed. Finally after about 20 minutes, it gave me the option to play either TLaD or TBoGT. I chose TBoGT. I watched the opening sequence, which started with the big bank heist that Niko and Packie pulled off in GTA IV. The main character in TBoGT, Luis, was in the wrong place at the wrong time, a customer at the bank. It then shows Luis answering questions about the robbery, then afterwards he starts walking down the street. One cut scene shows Niko driving a car while Luis crosses the street. Which I have to wonder why they were still so close to the bank.

I’ve only played 3 missions so far and I’m watching all the cut scenes. I always do when play a game for the first time. So far, throughout the cut scenes, various characters from GTA IV are shown, which I think is cool.

END SPOILER ALERT

Today I played The Lost and Damned. Again, I saw Niko walking down the sidewalk in a cut scene. I like the motorcycle gang theme. Kinda reminds me of the show ‘Sons of Anarchy’. And I’m a motorcyclist myself.

I’ve only played one mission so far and raced one race. Failed miserably on that. I’ll give it another go tomorrow.
