I LOVE boating. I’ve been boating and around the water since I was 2 years old. My dad owned boats, an aunt & uncle owned a houseboat, and mom & dad had friends who had boats. We were an outdoor family. Mom & Dad would pack up the car & boat on weekends and we’d head for a lake. Once we got there, we’d transfer everything from the car to the boat and then take off to find a camping spot. Dad knew all the good places to set up camp around the lake, so if a certain spot wasn’t taken, we’d unload the boat and set up camp. I had so much fun swimming, fishing, sitting around the campfire and eating fried potatoes and onions, bacon and fresh fish. Those were great weekends.
I’ll never forget the first time my dad let me drive the boat. I must have been between the ages of 6 and 8, that detail I don’t remember. I asked him if I could go fast and he let me. After a few minutes of zooming across the lake, we hit a wave and flew in the air. Not high, but it was thrill for me.
That’s how it all started for me. I’ve loved boats and the water ever since.
